I had been to the Grand Canyon a couple of times before, but it was on this trip that I finally got lucky with some great light and cloud conditions. The sheer scale and depth of the canyon can cause too many contrast extremes, making it very hard to properly expose for a shot, especially when your goal is to capture as much tonal range as possible.

The Wave is a sandstone rock formation located near the Arizona–Utah border, on the slopes of the Coyote Buttes, in the Paria Canyon-Vermilion Cliffs Wilderness, on the Colorado Plateau. The Wave can be challenging to locate due to the lack of an established, marked trail. Hikers must choose their own route across the open desert, which requires traversing exposed sandstone, sand dunes, and sandy wash bottoms. The coordinates are: 36° 59′ 45.84″ N, 112° 0′ 21.9″ W
